Over 80% Govt Schools in Tamil Ndu Don’t Have Internet, Reveals UDISE+ Report Released by Union Govt

Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit last year, internet connectivity has become important to impart education as schools have been shut for more than a year now.

A Union Govt report has revealed, over 80 percent of government schools in Tamil Nadu don’t have access to the internet. Only 17.95 government schools have internet facilities.

This data becomes very important in the pandemic year.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit last year, schools in the country are closed. The internet connection has become very crucial in the delivery of educational material.

Poor internet connectivity shows the digital divide to be bridged.

In March/April last year, Tamil Nadu Government tried teaching class 12 students through videos, but it didn’t help as many schools couldn’t download educational videos.

Over 90 percent of private schools have functional computers in the state, and over 75 percent have an internet connection.

Even Aided schools have poor facilities. Less than 30 percent have an internet connection and, less than 46 percent have functional computers.

The Union government recently released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus report 2019-20.
