The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday (July 9) arrested one person for misbehaving with the Samajwadi Party candidate Ritu Singh and her aide while they were filing nomination for block president election in Lakhimpur Kheri district.
ANI quoted Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police Vijay Dhul, "An accused has been arrested. The accused is a supporter of an independent candidate for kshetra Panchayat president polls. Four police teams have been constituted to nab the other accused. A DySP, an SHO, an inspector, and 3 sub-inspectors have been suspended because of negligence in their duty.”
The incident took place on Thursday (July 8) when a woman candidate and her aide were allegedly assaulted by some people. The candidate was filing for nomination for block president election in Pasgawan in Lakhimpur Kheri district.
According to police, the youth who misbehaved with Ritu Singh and her aide turned out to be a supporter of an independent candidate.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered strict action against the perpetrators invoking the stringent provisions of the National Security Act and the Gangster Act.
The chief minister also issued instructions to suspend the jurisdictional officer and station in charge.
Chairing the meeting of Team 9, a team formed to manage Covid-19 related preparations in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Under no circumstances, any attempt to disrupt the law and order will be accepted. Police must act with extra vigilance and sensitivity. Strict action should be taken by confiscating the weapons of those demonstrating arms."
