Broadcasting Footage of Footballer Christian Eriksen Receiving CPR on Ground

Danish footballer Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field Saturday in a Denmark vs Finland match of Euro 2020 in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen.

He was given CPR, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a lifesaving technique to revive the heart, in the field.

Although the team members on the ground immediately surrounded Eriksen to block any view, the BBC broadcast the picture for a few minutes.

It issued an apology Sunday saying “We apologise to anyone who was upset by the images broadcast...In-stadium coverage is controlled by UEFA as the host broadcaster, and as soon as the match was suspended, we took our coverage off air as quickly as possible."

Anchor Gary Lineker also apologised. He tweeted, “We will be back on air at 7.25 on @bbcone. I understand some of you would have been upset with some of the images shown (we were too). Obviously these were the host pictures and out of our control. They should have stayed on a wide of the stadium. Apologies.”

The same BBC has no problem at all in publishing pictures of pyres of unfortunate Covid-19 victims in India. It used the footage on its broadcasting platforms too.

And, it never bothered to apologise.
